Police respond to mental health crisis at Ithaca Commons

Police say they responded to a mental health situation around 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

The report came in as a person threatening another individual with a knife at the Ithaca Commons.

Upon arrival, officers located a subject, who was found to be having a mental health crisis.

Police said in a news release that the individuals was physically combative with officers, throwing objects and kicking at them before fleeing into his nearby residence.

Officers were able to make contact and gain control of the subject, who subsequently became cooperative with officers and was transported to a regional medical facility for a mental health evaluation.

The identity of the subject is not being released at this time, and the investigation into the incident remains active.
