His last day as head brewer will be August 26.

“About a month ago, Ben let us know it was time for him to take a break and move on,” Prison City wrote in a message to followers on Facebook. “To what? Remains to be determined. He’s not sure what his future plans are but we hope that maybe it’ll be at PC again in some capacity.”

The Schulz’ thanked Maeso for his efforts over the years, including the work that put Prison City on the map over the last eight years.

“Thank you for jumping aboard this crazy train when you did,” part of the announcement directed to Maeso read. “Prison City Brewing wouldn’t be what it is without you, and your beer. Collectively we learned so much together, accomplished so much together, and as you put it, ‘left our mark on the New York brewing scene’. We did all of that and then some; it’s been one hell of a ride with zero regrets. It’s been a riot!”

Prison City is encouraging the community to turn out for Maeso’s last day on Friday, August 26.
