Direct payments: Checks worth up to $600 for Illinois residents– When will they arrive?

Millions of Illinois residents will be getting checks in the coming weeks.

When will the payment arrive?

Residents of Illinois will be eligible for the direct payment if they paid Illinois property taxes in 2021 on their primary residence. Those who qualify will receive a rebate equal to the property tax credit claimed on their 2021 IL-1040 form. The maximum amount for this case is $300. There is also an income limit of $250,000 for individual filers and $500,000 for joint filers.

Illinois families will also receive income tax based payments. The income tax rebate will be worth $50 for individual filers and $100 for couples filing jointly. The maximum payment to be received through this part of teh program is also $300. Each dependent is worth $100– with a maximum of three dependents. Check distribution will start September 12, 2022– but it make take a few weeks to arrive.

Those who filled out the 2021 IL-1040 tax form will receive their rebates automatically. Residents who haven’t filed individual income tax returns or completed the form can still claim their rebate by filling out the form online.

Property owners can still receive the rebate too as long as they fill out the IL-1040 form by October 17.
