Goodwill of the Finger Lakes hosting thrift crawl on August 17

Goodwill of the Finger Lakes will host its inaugural Thrift Crawl from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022,  at select stores. The organization will also host the “We Are Goodwill Summer Social: Sustainability Under the Stars” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at the Strasenburgh Planetarium.

“The Goodwill Thrift Crawl and Summer Social are guaranteed to be fun and unique experiences,” President and CEO Jennifer Lake said. “By putting a focus on the role of thrifting and sustainability in our community, we can showcase the impact shopping at Goodwill has on creating a greener and brighter future.”

Thrift Crawl participants will meet at the Goodwill store at 451 South Ave. and will take provided transportation to Goodwill’s Victor, Macedon and Webster stores. At each venue, guests will enjoy snacks and beverages as “Thrift-fluencers” provide thrifting tips and styling advice. Guests will also enjoy a 15% discount in stores during the event. Tickets must be purchased in advance here.

The event coincides with National Thrift Shop Day, a day to support local thrift shops while raising awareness for charitable organizations. Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is a caring, local, person-centered not-for-profit organization that offers its community-focused services to communities across the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region. Its programs include Goodwill Vision Enterprises (GVE — formerly known as ABVI), 211/LIFE LINE and the Good Neighbor Program.

“The Goodwill Thrift Crawl is a great opportunity to get out and shop for a cause,” Vice President of Community Engagement Jennifer Boutte said. “When you shop or donate at Goodwill, you are supporting critical community programs that Goodwill of the Finger Lakes offers. Shopping at Goodwill is truly doing good for the community.”

On the following day, Goodwill will host Sustainability Under the Stars. Held at the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) Strasenburgh Planetarium, the event will include music, an open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a sustainable fashion show. Proceeds will support Goodwill’s mission programs and services. To purchase tickets, visit here.
