The Syracuse Mets opened the month of August with a 13-6 loss to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the series opener on Tuesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
Mike Montgomery, who was reinstated from the injured list, started for Syracuse and allowed a pair of runs (one earned) over three innings while walking three and striking out five.
The Mets bullpen really struggled as Tim Adleman surrendered six runs and Yennsy Díaz allowed four. Adonis Medina also gave up a run.
Syracuse plated their first run of the game in the first inning on a passed ball and then did not score again until the ninth. Daniel Palka drove in a run with an RBI single. Nick Plummer worked a bases-loaded walk. Gosuke Katoh collected three RBIs with a double.
The Mets will try to bounce back on Wednesday with veteran right-hander Trevor Cahill on the mound. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
