Town of Tyre receives assets of Magee Volunteer Fire Department, dissolution complete

The dissolution of the former Magee Volunteer Fire Department is complete.

Town receives department assets valued at $2.8 million

The Finger Lakes Times reports the department’s assets have been turned over to the town of Tyre under a state Supreme Court judgment obtained by state Attorney General Letitia James.

The town has received two buildings and their contents, vehicles, and firefighting apparatus valued at $2.8 million. Under the settlement, the town was responsible for the department’s unpaid bills and liens totaling $169,000.

What will become of department assets?

Town Supervisor Beth Partee says the town has formed a committee to decide what to do with the department’s assets.

The department was cited with violations related to its bingo games, as well as safety violations, in 2019. In 2021, the town reached an agreement with the Clyde/Galen Fire Department for fire protection. A state Supreme Court justice approved the dissolution of the department earlier this year.
