The man accused of attacking Rep. Lee Zeldin at a campaign event in Fairport has been arraigned.
David G. Jakubonis, 43, of Fairport faces federal assault charges after he went up on stage with an apparent knife and attempted to take down the Congressman.
Zeldin is running for governor.
According to prosecutors Jakubonis climbed onto the bed of a flatbed trailer where Zeldin was speaking to a crowd. He then extended a keychain with two sharp points toward Zeldin.
He could be heard in video stating repeatedly, “You’re done.”
Jakubonis was arraigned on separate, local charges of second-degree attempted assault.
Zeldin did not suffer any serious injuries in the incident, and spoke the next day at a planned event in Seneca Falls.
