Geneva man burns victim with cigarette, threatens to shoot child

A Geneva man was arrested following investigation into a domestic incident that occurred in Newark.

According to a news release, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested James E. Wright Jr., 26, of Geneva for criminal possession, assault, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of child, menacing, and criminal mischief.


It is alleged that Wright had a female drive him to Newark where he held a gun to the female’s two-year-old child’s head, burned the female with a cigarette, and threaten to shoot the child if she moved. Wright continued to assault the female by hitting her with the gun and leaving bruises on her arms and legs.

During the execution of the arrest warrant, Wright Jr., began to kick and spit at officers. He was additionally charged with obstruction of governmental administration.

James Jr., was remanded to the Wayne County Jail to await arraignment.
