New York Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso will participate in the 2022 Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium on July 18.

“It’s a really fun event and it’s going to be super exciting,” Alonso told reporters Monday after making the announcement on Instagram. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

Alonso will go for this third consecutive Home Run Derby title. He outlasted Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the 2019 Home Run Derby final and beat Baltimore’s Trey Mancini in the 2021 final. Major League Baseball canceled the Derby in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Alonso entered Monday’s game with 23 homers, which is the fifth-most in MLB this season.

Former Mets bench coach Dave Jauss will pitch to him for the second straight year.
