The Syracuse Mets fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 9-5, on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Despite dropping two in a row, Syracuse still leads the six-game series 3-2.
Mets starting pitcher David Griffin surrendered four runs on nine hits over four innings. Trey Cobb allowed five runs in relief, while Yennsy Díaz and Alex Claudio had scoreless outings.
The offense was led by Johneshwy Fargas, who smacked a two-run home run. Patrick Mazeika also homered, while Nick Plummer and Mark Vientos collected RBIs.
Syracuse’s pitching staff could not stop Lehigh Valley’s offense as they pounded out nine runs on 18 hits. Three of the nine starters had three-hit games and everyone in the starting lineup had at least a hit. Jorge Bonifacio launched a two-run homer.
The two teams will wrap up the week-long series on Sunday. The first pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
