The GOP primary for Ontario County Sheriff is happening next week. Early voting is currently underway at the Geneva Housing Authority, the Board of Elections in Canandaigua and at the Victor Town Hall.
David Circencione and Silvio Palermo, both Republican candidates for Ontario County Sheriff, recently appeared on the Inside the FLX podcast to discuss their campaign platforms and what makes them the best pick for Sheriff.
Ontario County Sheriff’s Lieutenant David Cirencione has what he calls a common-sense plan to keep families safe if he’s elected Sheriff.
Cirencione has been with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. He also shared his desire to see a School Resource Officer in every school district in the county during his recent chat with FingerLakes1.com.

Cirencione says the state’s bail reform law was well-intentioned but addresses problems that aren’t relevant to upstate New York. He says the law also took discretion away from judges when it comes to imposing bail on criminal defendants.

Palermo served in the Gates Police Department and as a federal officer with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
He said the Ontario County Supervisors’ report of the problems within the department under former Sheriff Kevin Henderson left too many unanswered questions, and that the public deserves transparency from the Sheriff’s Office.
Henderson and Undersheriff David Frasca resigned after allegations of workplace harassment. Palermo’s opponent, David Cirencione, is currently a Lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office.

Palermo would add a Public Information/Community Relation officer to the department. He also plans to focus on recruitment, as a number of officers have stepped down in recent years. Palermo believes every School District in the county should have a full-time School Resource Officer and he wants to establish a threat assessment team to identify potential problems before they lead to violence.

Palermos’s platform also calls for the creation of a Transitional Care Coordinator for jail inmates to provide services upon their release, in hopes of reducing recidivism.
