The Rochester Red Wings snapped an eight-game skid on Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field.
Rochester fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning on Ronald Guzmán’s RBI single but tied the game in the sixth on Adrian Sanchez’s RBI groundout.
Ildemaro Vargas crushed a two-run home run in the seventh to give the Red Wings a 3-1 lead, and it ended up being the difference-maker. It was Vargas’ first homer of the season.
Vargas and Cole Freeman each had two-hit games.
Cade Cavalli started on the bump and surrendered a run on five hits over five innings while walking one and striking out four. Patrick Murphy, Tyler Clippard, and Jordan Weems had scoreless outings in relief.
Rochester will try to make it two in a row on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
