Mets place Starling Marte on bereavement list

The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they have placed outfielder Starling Marte on the bereavement list.

However, the move was officially made on Monday. Per MLB rules, Marte will have to spend a minimum of three days away from the team and no more than seven while he addresses the private matter. This means he will miss the entire four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Mets recalled reliever Steve Nogosek from Triple-A Syracuse to take his spot on the 26-man roster.

Also, reliever Adonis Medina was added to the roster from Triple-A Syracuse as the 27th man for Tuesday’s doubleheader. He will be available for both games and then will be sent back down.
