Rochester Red Wings end homestand with win over SWB RailRiders

The Rochester Red Wings wrapped up a 12-game homestand with a 2-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Sunday afternoon at Frontier Field.

Rochester won five of the six games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Jefry Rodriguez got the start for the Red Wings and allowed one run, but couldn’t make it out of the third inning. The bullpen did an outstanding job as Ben Braymer, Francisco Perez, Jordan Weems, and Carl Edwards Jr. combined for 6.1 scoreless innings.

The RailRiders opened the scoring in the third inning. Greg Bird drove in a run with a ground-rule double to make it 1-0. However, that lead didn’t last long as the Red Wings quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame. Andrew Stevenson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.

Luis Garcia smoked an RBI single to left in the fifth and that ended up being the difference in the game as the bullpen was lights out.

Stevenson and Joey Meneses each had multi-hit games for the Red Wings.

Rochester will get the day off on Monday before they begin a six-game series with the Worcester Red Sox. The first pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m.
