FINGER LAKES TRAVEL: Canoga’s hidden gem in State Bakery + BBQ

Driving through Canoga is quick. The small community along State Route 89 in Seneca County has a hidden gem, though.

If State Bakery + BBQ hasn’t made it across your radar yet- you’re missing out.

When we heard they were opening up for the season we jumped at the opportunity to give them a try.

From the road, State Bakery + BBQ looks like a small garage with little inside. But walking in you’d be surprised at all they have to offer. From their famous bbq, to merchandise, and beautiful baked goods.

State Bakery is owned and run by Kal Awad and Sam Walker. The pair up and left Baltimore in hopes of starting a business right in the middle of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. They realized there weren’t any stops on the trail to get food so they got to it.

State Bakery opened in the middle of the pandemic (2020) and is now going on their third year of business. Even though times are tough, word of this restaurant has spread like wild fire through out the Finger Lakes. And after trying the food we can confirm the hype is well deserved.

FINGER LAKES TRAVEL: Dinner at 84 Fall

Barbecue Chicken Sandwich

The first thing we tried was their Barbecue Chicken Sandwich. First off the pickles on this thing are huge and will satisfy any pickle lovers dreams. They don’t skimp on the size when it comes to anything here. I split this sandwich with three different people. And it left each one of them happy and full.

The Fruit Tart

If you’re looking for something to post on your Instagram then look no further than State Bakery’s fruit tart. This dish looks amazing and tastes as good as you’d assume. The fruit is sweet and fresh and it’s overall a refreshing dessert.

The Barbecue Box

Lastly we tried the Barbecue box. This was our favorite from the trip. It comes jam packed with brisket, pulled pork and two sides of your choice. We went with the corn bread and potato salad. Their is nothing better on a summer day than the perfect barbecue meal and that is exactly what this is.

State Bakery is at 3512 Ny-89, Seneca Falls, New York. They are open on weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. You can use their social media pages and website to keep up with what they’re doing. Or if you want to check out their menu!
