Mets fall to Giants, 5-2

The New York Mets fell to the San Francisco Giants, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Citi Field.

Chris Bassitt really struggled as he allowed five runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out six and walking one. Chasen Shreve and Sean Reid-Foley each recorded scoreless appearances in relief.

The Giants scored three of their five runs in the first inning. Joc Pederson brought home the first run with a RBI double. Later in the inning, Brandon Crawford and Wilmer Flores each drove in a run with a RBI single.


Brandon Belt homered to right in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.

In the fifth, Mike Yastrzemski lined a RBI single to right to make it 5-0.

Starling Marte put the Mets on the board in the seventh with an infield RBI single.

Mark Canha cut the Giants lead to three in the eighth with a RBI single to center.

Pete Alonso had three of New York’s nine hits.

The Mets will try to take three of four from the Giants on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
