New state budget returns tax revenue to counties

Local county governments made out pretty well under the recently-passed state budget.

Yates County Administrator Nonie Flynn says a quarter of a million dollars in sales tax revenue that had been kept for state programs will now be returned back to Yates County.

Flynn says the budget also eliminates a right-of-way tax that would have increased the cost of providing broadband internet to more county residents. Flynn says the county will receive more money for veterans’ services than it has in the past.

April is County Government Month. Flynn says the COVID-19 pandemic made more people aware of the services provided by the county to its residents.
