Rochester Red Wings defeat Buffalo Bisons in extras

The Rochester Red Wings bullpen blew a late six-run lead, but it didn’t come back to hurt them as they defeated the Buffalo Bisons, 11-10, in 10 innings on the Saturday afternoon at Frontier Field.

Rochester pounded out 11 runs on 18 hits, with nine of their 11 runs coming in the first three innings.

It was a wild first inning as both teams combined for nine runs. Logan Warmoth opened the scoring for Buffalo with a grand slam over the left-field wall. Josh Palacios put the Red Wings on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run shot to right-center. Later in the inning, Tres Barrera drove in a run with a single to center to tie the game at four and Adrian Sanchez gave the Red Wings a 5-4 lead with a RBI single to right.

Rochester added four more runs in the third to extend the lead to 9-4. Luis Garcia lined a RBI single to right and Jake Noll belted a three-run home run to left.

In the fourth, Barrera homered to right to make it 10-4.

The Bisons scored five runs in the eighth to cut the Red Wings lead to one. Stevie Berman started the inning with a two-run single to center. One batter later, Nathan Lukes grounded one through the right side for a RBI single. Later in the frame, Berman scored on a wild pitch and Vinny Capra picked up a RBI with a groundout.

Cullen Large worked a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to tie the game at 10.

After Buffalo was held scoreless in the top half of the 10th, Palacios delivered a walk-off single to right to give Rochester the 11-10 victory.

Jackson Tetreault got the start for the Red Wings and allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings while striking out one and walking one. Tyler Clippard really struggled in relief as he allowed five runs and did not record an out while Reed Garrett allowed the other run. Francisco Perez, Erasmo Ramirez, Jace Fry and Jordan Weems each recorded scoreless appearances.

Rochester will try to split the six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
