The Buffalo Sabres announced Friday that they have signed defenseman Owen Power to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Power decided to return to the University of Michigan for a second season, instead of turning pro and joining the Sabres last fall. His decision was a smart one, as Power played extremely well for the University of Michigan, as well as Canada at the cancelled World Juniors and 2022 Winter Olympics in China.
The 19-year-old tallied 32 points (3+29) in 33 games with Michigan this past season.
According to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News, he is expected to make his NHL debut Tuesday night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
Power is the fourth No. 1 draft choice in Sabres history, joining Gilbert Perreault (1970), Pierre Turgeon (1987), and Rasmus Dahlin (2018).
