Waterloo to host Memorial Day festivities May 27-29 after two-year hiatus

Waterloo’s three-day long Memorial Day celebration is back this year after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

The Celebrate Commemorate event will take place on May 27 – 29, with May 30 serving as solemn observance day, according to Finger Lakes Times. This is the community’s 156th consecutive Memorial Day observance and its 23rd annual Celebrate Commemorate event.

This year’s Celebrate Commemorate event in Waterloo- the birthplace of Memorial Day- will include a Main Street parade on Saturday, May 28 and a Main Street car show on Sunday, May 29. The event-filled weekend will also include festivities in Lafayette Park like musical performers, children’s games, food vendors, a youth essay contest, and a large encampment of Civil War reenactors.

On Monday, May 30, there will be prayer services in village cemeteries and a military parade at 4 p.m.
