Gage Goncalves scored the lone goal for Syracuse in the second period.
Max Lagace stopped 21-of-23 shots in the loss.
Fabian Zetterlund scored twice for Utica while Brian Flynn netted the other goal.
Mareks Mittels turned aside 19-of-20 shots to earn the victory.
Both teams were unable to convert on their power play opportunities as Syracuse finished 0-for-2 while Utica went 0-for-4.
The Crunch host the Rochester Americans on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
