The Lyons Community Center has been turned over to the Lyons Central School District.
Officials say the gifting of the Community Center to the school district will provide the center with financial stability, expanded programming, and greater access to funding. The district will benefit through access to an additional athletics facility without having to undergo a capital project.
“This is a joint decision between the Lyons Central School District and the Community Center,” said Lyons Community Center board president Keith Bridger, according to Finger Lakes Times. “It’s a workable solution to handle the costs of running the center while continuing and expanding all the activities and resources the community has grown to expect from this facility.”
In the past, the school district has used the Manhattan Street facility for athletics, meetings, fundraisers, and other events, said Lyons Superintendent Matt Barr. The district’s proposed tax levy increase of 1.7% for 2022-23 is not impacted by the building gift.
