The Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce will not be joining the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce, which was announced last week as a merger between the Canandaigua and Victor chambers.
Geneva Chamber President Miranda Odell said the merger announcement came unexpectedly. As far as how it might affect the Geneva Chamber’s operations, Odell said it won’t.
“We don’t have geographic restrictions like a chamber that is a tourism promotion agency, like Seneca and Yates counties,” she said. “We have always had customers throughout the Finger Lakes. [The merger] doesn’t really affect us at all,” said Odell, according to Finger Lakes Times.
Ontario Chamber President Ethan Fogg said the newly-merged chamber is an extension of the Canandaigua Chamber’s ongoing work. Fogg stated he’s open to bringing other chambers on board, but that it’s their choice.
Odell stated there is “no need” for Geneva and Ontario County chambers to merge.
