The three-seeded Mynderse Blue Devils fell to the four-seeded Wellsville Lions, 66-58, in the Section V Class B2 championship on Saturday afternoon at Webster Schroeder High School.
It’s the Lions fifth title in school history and second in the last four years.
Mynderse and Wellsville were tied 26-26 at the half until the Lions opened the second half with 20 third-quarter points to take a 46-35 lead into the final quarter. The Blue Devils rallied back thanks to some missed free throws and big buckets by Jayden Key, but fell short after a few costly turnovers.
Senior Troy Kabat scored 19 points to lead Mynderse. Key was the only other Blue Devil to finish in double figures as he netted 12 points. Mike Bogart added eight points and Jaydan Ryrko finished with seven while Will Korzeniewski and Ethan Hilimire chipped in with six to round out the scoring.
