Ithaca College announced it with lift the school’s campus-wide mask mandate beginning Friday, March 4, while Cornell University has opted to keep their mask policy in place.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced the end of the state’s school mask mandate effective Tuesday, March 2.
Ithaca College’s assistant director of emergency preparedness and response Samm Swarts said the school’s decision to lift their mask mandate follows changes in guidance from the Tompkins County Health Department, according to The Cornell Daily Sun. The college will keep the mask rules in place for certain campus locations like the Hammond Health Center. Professors can determine for themselves whether or not they require masks in their classrooms.
Cornell University provost Michael Kotlikoff told The Sun that the university will continue to base its masking policy on scientific data and Cornell-specific factors.
