Hornell Police warn residents to avoid scam after business loses $2K

The Hornell Police Department is raising awareness about scams after a local business allegedly lost thousands of dollars.

A Hornell business filed a complaint with the Hornell Police on Sunday, February 20, in which the business claims it lost $2,000, according to WETM.

The scammer allegedly claimed counterfeit bills were given in payments from the business, and the business then sent the scammer $2,000 to correct the reported issue.

Hornell Police want residents to be weary of calls like this and avoid scams. If you receive a call of this nature, you should call your local law enforcement agency.
