Local winery harvests frozen grapes for ice wine

While some dread the long and frigid winter, ice wine makers delight in perfect winemaking conditions when the temperature drops.

Dave Breeden, a winemaker at Sheldrake Point Winery in Ovid, says ice wine grapes need to be harvested when the temperature is between 12 and 15 degrees, according to Post Standard – Upstate.

Sheldrake Point’s newest ice wine offering is their first-ever kosher wine made from Gewürztraminer grapes.

There are more than a dozen wineries in upstate New York making ice wine.
