Omicron dropping off could signal a new COVID-19 variant in the future.
COVID-19 is still mutating, which means there could be a surge to come.
Should I be worried?
A professor of emergency medicine and academic dean of public health at Brown University, Dr. Megan Ranney, said that “there is a high chance that more surges are in our future.” Read more about it here.
Ranney suggests preparing now for potential future variants. This includes, “practice[ing] public health at its best.”

Ranney also thinks that investing in better data systems could help detect another surge and provide clearer information about protection.
