BA.2 is a subvariant of Omicron and is spreading more rapidly.

What makes the variants different?
BA.2 is 50% more transmissible than BA.1. Despite the higher transmission rate, there is no increased risk of fatality. Read more about it here.
The subvariant shouldn’t be an imminent threat to the population as long as hospitals have enough capacity to treat the seriously ill.
More testing on BA.2 needs to be done, but it is believed to be treatable with current COVID-19 vaccines.
Just because BA.2 spreads faster, doesn’t mean it is more severe.
The best advice is to get vaccinated, boosted, and following local guidelines.
