Kristina Harris of Horseheads was able to get the blood transfusion she desperately needed after giving birth to her child thanks to local blood donors.
Harris went to Corning Hospital to give birth to her second child in what was supposed to be a routine c-section, according to WETM. When she felt her baby kick violently and pain in her ribs, Harris knew something was wrong. She was transferred to Robert Packer Hospital where she received a blood transfusion.
“I had a disorder called Dessimated Intravascular Coagulation and, that’s a situation that’s rare and serious where abnormal clotting leads to massive blood loss,” said Harris.
The country is currently experiencing a blood shortage. Go to the American Red Cross website to schedule an appointment to give blood near you.
