Spikevax, Moderna’s new vaccine met the “rigorous standards for safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality required for approval,” according to the FDA.

What does Spikevax mean for COVID-19?

The vaccine has been approved for emergency authorization for people 18 or older. Read more about it here.

The Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Spikevax could be a major step in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Millions of doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine were already administered under emergency authorization. It is the hope that the new FDA approval of this vaccine “may instill additional confidence in making the decision to get vaccinated.”

The Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was approved back in August by the FDA. It was supposed to be marketed as Comirnaty.

FDA approval of Pfizer was very timely as it helped businesses require a vaccine for employees.
