The development of gene therapy
In the past couple of years, gene therapy has emerged as one of the most promising developments within the global healthcare industry. It is, put simply, the process of targeting a non-functioning or missing gene in a patient’s DNA and adding or superseding it with a working gene that is capable of forming the required protein. This has also led to the emergence of a growing number of gene therapy stocks for investors, such as Translate Bio and Krystal Biotech. The search for a potential cure may still be a long way off but with developments continuing to progress on an upwards incline, the need for further treatment may be eradicated sooner rather than later.
The search for a cure for corneal blindness
Corneal blindness may be the fourth most common blindness throughout the world but, as of 2022, there is no cure. Since the mid-2010s, however, the search for a cure for corneal blindness has been ramped up thanks to the joint efforts of ophthalmologist Dr Sanduk Ruit and investor Tej Kohli. Since 2015, the Tej Kohli Cornea Institute has delivered much-needed care to thousands of patients suffering from corneal blindness by carrying out blindness screenings, offering free corneal transplants, and even restoring the vision of an entire family suffering from visual impairment. The Tej Kohli Cornea Institute is expected to continue administering direct treatments throughout 2022 and beyond in its mission to eradicate corneal blindness by 2035.
The switch to online appointment scheduling software
In today’s digital landscape, online appointment scheduling software has steadily replaced traditional means of scheduling appointments. By doing so, it is expected to become the norm within the next decade as a number of investment companies are already finding themselves scrambling to keep up with the explosion of companies to emerge within that field in recent years. The Cambridge-based investment company, Cambridge Angels, for example, which invests between £50,000 and £1 million in solutions that address major problems for sizable target markets, has recently added leading online appointment scheduling software 10 to 8 to its impressive investment portfolio.
In the past couple of years, a number of advancements have emerged that are continuing to revolutionise the healthcare industry. This includes the development of gene therapy, the search for a cure for corneal blindness, and, last but certainly not least, the switch to online appointment scheduling software as opposed to traditional means of scheduling appointments. This has also led to a number of investment opportunities for healthcare investors.
