$700,000 grant will provide seniors in Yates County with new housing

A $700,000 state grant awarded to the Keuka Housing Council will go towards rehousing Yates County senior citizens currently living in run-down mobile homes.

The NYS governor’s office announced the grant on January 20 as part $25 million going to non-profits throughout the state, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

“We take dilapidated mobile homes in our area and replace them,” said Bloom, executive director of the Keuka Housing Council. “This keeps a lot of our seniors on their properties. I can tell you from experience some of the trailers we replace are in terrible shape.”

Blooms says the money will primarily go towards replacing six mobile homes in the county.
