In her daily COVID-19 briefing Friday, Governor Kathy Hochul said the positive test percentage in the state has fallen below 10% for the first time since December 10.
The rolling seven day average positivity in what the state considers the Finger Lakes region, which includes Monroe County, was 16.03% on Thursday.
“For the first time since December 20, New York State’s percent positivity is in the single-digits,” Governor Hochul said. “I want to thank New Yorkers for doing the right thing to get where we are in fighting this winter surge. However, this isn’t the time to take our foot off the gas. Let’s keep using the tools – the vaccine, the booster and masking up – to further bring the numbers down and keep our vulnerable loves ones safe from this virus.”
Asked if she might consider rolling back the state’s indoor mask mandate, the Governor said “I’d be negligent if I said now on a certain date something is going to happen. I think people respect that. I’m not going to operate in a vacuum. We’re going to have data and experts and people who know a lot about what the next trends are, but I am really looking forward to lifting them—I truly am.”
