The IRS has announced that they will start accepting tax returns Jan. 24, 2022. In order to file, you’ll need you W-2.
Once you have it, you can start filing.
This form will detail your income and any tax information from your employer.
You’ll need it to file your taxes correctly.
It’s required that your W-2 is sent by the end of January.
You may get them in the mail, or electronically. It’s best to check with your employer to find out.
What do I do if I didn’t get my W-2 before February?
While many get their W-2 forms by Feb. 1, it’s possible that your employer sent them out on Jan. 31.
If you don’t see your form by the middle of the month, you may want to reach out to your employer or their HR department and ask.
If they refuse to provide you with the document, contact the IRS to let the know.
You must also notify the IRS when the form is incorrect but your employer refuses to give you a corrected form.
Contact the IRS by calling 800-829-1040.
You will receive a letter from the IRS with specific instructions including a substitute W-2 form.
