Square recently purchased Credit Karma Tax, and now is offering free state and federal filing through Cash App.
But is it legitimate and safe to use?
Many people often look for free services due to how expensive it can be to file taxes.
Cash App is offering free tax services for 2022
In Nov. 2020, Square Inc. bought out Credit Karma Tax and will be adding that to its list of services available through Cash App.
Users can submit simple tax returns for free with the service.
How to use the Cash App service
You’ll need to download the app and create an account in order to access the free service.
The app guarantees the software is free for both state and federal tax returns, even if users want to file for claims or deductions.
The companies Accurate Calculation Guarantee covers up to $1,000 for penalties incurred if the mistake was Cash App’s fault.
The reimbursement will be in the form of gift cards.
Is it safe to use the app’s service to file tax returns?
According to AS.com, the company’s website says the service will “use 128-bit or higher encryption to protect the transmission of your data to Cash App Taxes.”
Tax data is subjected to different, stricter laws.
The service will also use 2 factor authentication with third party teams to look for gaps in security.
