Hochul forgives Brooklyn Jeopardy contestant who didn’t know she was Governor

Governor Kathy Hochul’s COVID-19 briefing Friday featured a New Yorker who didn’t get the memo.

The memo that she was the Governor. News 10 NBC reports Ben Walthall of Brooklyn, when he appeared on the hit game show, failed to buzz in on the clue “In 2021, she became the first female governor of New York state.” The clue was read again Friday by a Hochul staff member who at first said “first female president” and then corrected himself to “governor of New York state.” Walthall correctly responded, “Who is Kathy Hochul?”

Walthall told the Governor the show was recorded right after she replaced former Governor Andrew Cuomo. The question was apparently a tricky one. None of the contestants got it right, including defending champion Amy Schneider, who had won 22 consecutive games.
