The Centro bus system has announced a proposed universal pricing system that would lower fees for most riders, including those in Auburn.
The Citizen reports fares between Auburn and Syracuse would decrease from four dollars to three dollars under the plan. The idea behind the proposal is to adopt a universal fare for inter-city service between Syracuse and Auburn and Oswego. Intra-city fares within the city of Auburn would remain at a dollar for adults and 50 cents for senior citizens and those with disabilities. If the proposed system is adopted, Centro would change from selling 2o or 30-ride passes in Syracuse to 10-ride, weekly or daily passes that would be sold on the buses.
Centro will collect input from the public in January and February. If it’s positive, the new fare structure could begin next March.
