Governor Kathy Hochul intends to introduce a bill in the state Legislature that would officially change the definition of “fully vaccinated” to mean having had a booster shot.
At a news conference, she said the state will gather more data before the bill is introduced. State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett said COVID hospitalization rates are the highest they’ve been in months. Meanwhile, the Governor said she’s continuing to consider ways of increasing the state’s health care workforce. She was asked at Thursday’s news conference about counties and businesses who have said they will not enforce what the Governor calls a mask mandate. Hochul said “This is a crisis; this is a healthcare crisis and people are going to die.”
Governor Hochul and Commissioner Bassett continue to urge New Yorkers to get vaccinated, get a booster and to wear a mask when indoors.
