Nursing homes in New York are going to be required to make booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine available to all residents.
That was the message over the weekend from Governor Kathy Hochul, who made the announcement on Sunday.
“We’ve got to do everything we can to protect vulnerable New Yorkers,” she said on Twitter. “That means making sure everyone is able to get a booster.”
Health experts have been watching the Omicron variant of COVID with intense interest.
“All nursing homes and adult care facilities will now be required to make booster doses available to all of their residents,” Hochul added.
The Omicron, or B.1.1529 variant was first detected by scientists in South Africa. The World Health Organization designated it a ‘variant of concern’.
