An 81 year old hunter who had been reported missing earlier this week found his way to a Yates County home.
Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike tells the Finger Lakes Times a search was about to be organized for the Massachusetts man after he failed to meet up with his fellow hunters as planned. The group had been hunting in the Italy Valley State Forest.
Deputies drove along some of the roads in the area and they tried pinging his cell phone, but were unable to get a signal. Other options being considered were a helicopter and a K-9 unit, but just as a full search was about to get underway, the missing man found his way to an Italy Valley Road home in the town of Italy. The homeowner called 9-1-1.
Spike says the man, whose name was not released, probably walked several miles over difficult terrain to find his way out of the woods.
