Yates County crash leads to DWI arrest

Deputies responding to a crash in the Town of Italy say they found the driver showing signs of intoxication.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sylvia Vanhousen, 65, of Naples, around 8:47 p.m. February 12 on Brink Hill Road.

Deputies responded to a reported property damage motor vehicle accident and spoke with Vanhousen at the scene.

Officers say she displayed signs of intoxication. Deputies administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and then took her into custody.

Deputies transported Vanhousen to the Yates County Jail, where she submitted to a chemical test.

Authorities charged her with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1% or more, Driving While Intoxicated, and Moving from Lane Unsafely.

Deputy A. Garren and Deputy N. Fultz responded to the scene, with assistance from the New York State Police.

Deputies released Vanhousen on appearance tickets. She will answer the charges at a later date in the Town of Italy Court.
