The Victor Blue Devils girls volleyball team can send another banner to the rafters, on Sunday morning the Blue Devils won the 2021 Class AA state title over Massapequa 3-1. For Victor, it is their first girls volleyball state crown since 2009. It is their third state title overall in girls volleyball, and the first in Class AA. For the team, it completes a redemption story for the seniors on the team, many of whom were on the squad in 2018 were the Blue Devils came up just short.

The first set of the match proved to be an exciting one. Victor jumped to a set lead early, but Massapequa was able to hang around, at one point trailing 20-18. With a couple more points scored, the Chiefs called a timeout with Victor leading 23-21. It proved to be a futile move, as the Blue Devils were able to keep Massapequa at arm’s length away to win the set 25-23. The second set started similar as the first, with Victor holding a lead of 14-10 before seizing all momentum in the set, winning 25-14 and jumping to a fast 2-0 match lead.
Massapequa wouldn’t go away silently and the Chiefs would need a big third set to stay alive. Victor couldn’t quite keep up with the Chief’s pace in the third set, and Massapequa nearly mirrored the second set on the Blue Devils taking a set victory of 25-15, and cutting the match score to 2-1. For Victor, set four would be critical with the Chiefs having momentum from the third set. The Blue Devils attack came quick and they would keep their foot on the throttle to set the tone of the fourth set. Victor got the lead and kept it out of reach for Massapequa, as the Chiefs called a timeout with Victor leading 17-12. It would be a last stitch move on the Chiefs, as Victor pulled away and took the set and match 25-15.
