Unvaccinated healthcare workers who used religious exemption have until Monday to get COVID vaccine

Health systems across the region will have to get employees vaccinated immediately, or face consequences of the state’s vaccine mandate.

After weeks of uncertainty around the September mandate requiring all healthcare workers at large healthcare systems to get the COVID-19 vaccine or face termination – the state has issued guidance to those systems.

In the Finger Lakes region that includes Rochester Regional Health and the University of Rochester Medical System.

Unvaccinated employees for URMC received a notice this week – reminding them of a deadline set for Monday, November 22 at 11:59 p.m.

The takeaway: Be vaccinated, or you will have voluntarily resigned.

At this point there are approximately 700 employees with religious exemptions. The notice indicates that unless there is a medical exemption acquired by Monday- their time with URMC will come to an end.

The memos provided to health systems by New York State indicate that November 22, 2021 is the full-deadline for compliance with the state’s COVID vaccine mandate.
