Court has been backed up due to COVID-19, and now has a very busy docket. To catch up, New York State’s top judge has decided to expand courtroom capacity to 100%.
Most judges or staff for the court system have been vaccinated against the virus or has a legitimate exemption.
Courtrooms have had both in-person and virtual sessions with social distancing when necessary.
Chief Judge Janet DiFiore did not disclose the number of vaccinated staff, but said that there is an obligation to getting to and resolving these cases in a timely manner.
