A new program in Ann Arbor is considering giving certain families $500 per month for three years.
Acting City Administrator John Fournier says it’s based on financial income.
The pilot program is similar to one done in Stockton, California.
This is doubling as a study, and the Los Angeles Times reported that people receiving these payments were twice as likely to find full-time work faster than the control group.
Chicago is considering a similar program as well.
The American Rescue Plan Act is giving Ann Arbor over $24 million in stimulus funding to use toward social services and initiatives.
The city has only received half the funding, the rest will come next year. All money must be spent by 2026.
