The new Catch-and-Release Trout season begins Oct. 16 and gives fishermen an opportunity to enjoy the sport all year long.
The season will run from Oct. 16 through March 31.
Anglers must use artificial lures and immediately release trout they catch.
This season only applies to trout streams. Lakes and ponds are prohibited after Oct. 15.
The DEC will use this as a chance to study angling pressure and trout abundance with 19 different trout streams between 2021 and 2024.
