Second resident in Westchester County, New York hospitalized due to severe West Nile Virus symptoms

West Nile is making its way around, and the Hudson Valley area has reported two cases in New York State.

A 66-year-old Westchester County resident is now in the hospital with underlying health conditions due to the virus contracted by a mosquito bite.

The County did a search of the residents home for possible breeding grounds of mosquitos and found nearby catch basins they treated with larvicide.

A resident, age 58, was just hospitalized last week with the same issues.

The virus can cause flu-like symptoms, but be especially harmful to anyone over the age of 60 or with underlying health issues.

Most symptoms do not appear for 14 days and can be as severe as paralysis.
