A Penn Yan woman was taken into custody after a welfare fraud investigation in Yates County, according to deputies.
Josephy Zapata, 43, of Penn Yan is accused of failing to accurately disclose a material fact regarding her income to DSS.
The sheriff’s office says it led to an overpayment of public assistance benefits in excess of $2,000.
She was charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny, and offering a false instrument for filing.
The charges will be answered at a later date.
