COVID-19 used to spread by clusters, now it seems to be general community spread

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 were at 104 people across the Central New York region on Aug. 25, a threshold that has not been crossed since February.

Things like the New York State Fair are not to blame.

The Fair has tested 923 in total at the Fair grounds and 24 tested positive for the virus. There’s no evidence, nor does it seem possible, that the 2.6% of people testing positive while at the Fair got it at there.

The question is then, where are these new cases coming from? During the last surge, they were soon after the holidays.

Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego Counties are saying they are not finding clusters, but are simply seeing a high rate of general community spread.

Only time will tell if the virus is actually spreading at the State Fair.
